Instagram Weekend: Wisconsin Trip

Happy Tuesday! This week is speeding along. Maybe it’s because I’m just coming off of a 3-day weekend. I took last Friday off for a mini-vacation to Wisconsin to visit friends and family. It was my “birthday weekend round 2,” if you will. I’m always a fan of extending my birthday celebrations for as long as possible. I flew in Friday morning. Here was my first sight — good ol’ snowy Wisconsin:

My mom picked me up from the airport and we drove straight to our favorite coffee spot, The Steaming Cup. I was in need of a serious caffeine boost! We ordered the flavored coffee (I think it was hazelnut?) and a trail mix scone.

After my cup of coffee, I was ready for some shopping. I’m always excited to visit Target when I’m home since I don’t have one in Manhattan. I picked up some clothes, and took a quick trip into the “spring” section. Unfortunately, they hadn’t finished stocking all the Easter candy yet! I was hoping to pick up some Reese’s Pieces eggs and Sweetart jelly beans. That’ll have to be a different trip!

After shopping, I went home and did a little baking (Rice Krispie treats with a secret ingredient — look out for a future post!) before meeting up with my Wisco friends. We ate dinner at Water Street Brewery. Its claim to fame, if you can guess it, is its selection of beers! I tried my first-ever raspberry beer, which was excellent!

I spent time catching up with my parents on Saturday. We went to a belated birthday dinner at one of my favorite spots. The best part of dinner? Red velvet cake – with my name on it! It was one of the best red velvets I’ve ever had (and I’ve had my fair share of red velvet — it IS my favorite). I think my dad said the frosting was white mocha? Superb! Here’s another shot of the cake:

My friend Katie and I headed to the movies on Sunday. We saw Silver Linings Playbook. Neither of us had seen it yet. We had both heard great things! My expectations were far exceeded. The storyline held my attention the entire time (and the movie was quite long!). Anyway — you rock, Jennifer Lawrence! I was so happy that she won an Oscar for her performance. She deserved it!
